Frequently Asked Questions – Plug n Drive
Can I install the EV charger myself?
No. Installation must be done by a certified electrician. This ensures safety, compliance with local electrical codes, and preserves your product warranty.
How long does it take to charge my car?
This depends on the charger and your car’s battery. With the Relax (7.4 kW) charger, a full charge on a 60 kWh battery takes about 8 hours. The Pro (22 kW) charger can charge the same battery in around 2–3 hours.
Do I need a three-phase connection for the Speed and Pro models?
Yes. The 11 kW and 22 kW chargers require a three-phase electrical supply. If you have only single-phase, we recommend the Relax model.
Can I charge my car during load-shedding?
You can charge outside of load-shedding hours. To charge during blackouts, you would need a backup solution such as a battery or inverter system.
Are Plug n Drive chargers compatible with all EVs?
Yes. Our chargers use a Type 2 connector, which is compatible with most EVs sold in South Africa and Europe, including BMW, Audi, Mercedes, Hyundai, VW, and others.
How long does installation take?
Most home installations take 3–5 hours, depending on the site layout and distance from the electrical board.
Do I get a warranty with the charger?
Yes. All our chargers come with a minimum 2-year warranty, with extended options available depending on the manufacturer.
Can I monitor charging remotely?
Yes. Most models support mobile app integration via Wi-Fi, Ethernet or GSM. You can monitor charging sessions, schedule charging, and access usage statistics.
Can I install more than one charger at my property?
Yes. Multi-charger setups are possible, especially with load balancing features. We recommend a site assessment by our technician beforehand.
